I would have never thought it possible, but I actually won a vacation on one of those penny auction sites. But, before you say, “tell me another” let me tell you how it happened and where we went!
A friend told me about this really neat travel auction site, and what he was most excited about was that the auction was actually a penny auction, and the bids only went up a penny at a time! The name of this vacation auction site was UbidUgo, and my friend had just come back from a trip to New York City where they stayed in a city hotel to see a Broadway play, and he’d won the round-trip airfare and the hotel stay on this site.
Well, winter was coming, and last year both the wife and I caught the flu and were laid up for almost a month, and so if there was anything we wanted was a trip to Miami Beach where winter does not even make leaves fall off trees because they are palm trees and off the warm sunny beach anyway.
I went to the site and registered and then bought some bids just like my friend told me to and began to study how things were happening. I even wrote down some of the names of those who seemed to give up rather easily, knowing that if I were bidding against those guys, I’d be able to outlast them and win the bid. I also took note on what packages were going more quickly than others, meaning that there were not as many people bidding on those as the bids will extend the time on the clock in the last minute. It’s only 15-second extensions, but they can add up if you are straining to win a particular vacation. So, what do you think of my Miami Beach tan?
